Community Maker Lab: Open Shop

Bring your woodworking, metal fabrication, or CNC projects to life using Red Wing High School's state-of-the-art woodworking, metal fabrication, and CNC facilities. This supervised open shop provides access to a wide range of equipment while you work independently on your own projects.

During the required safety orientation, the instructor will discuss your project and, if needed, help you develop a project plan, including a materials list and estimated material costs. Throughout the session, the instructor will be available to oversee shop safety, answer questions, and provide technical guidance as needed. Participants provide their own project materials and work at their own pace in a collaborative shop environment.

All participants must register separately for and attend one Orientation & Project Planning session before participating in Open Shop. During this session, participants will tour the facilities, complete shop safety training, begin equipment certifications, and meet with the instructor to discuss their project, develop a materials list, and estimate material costs. Participants must complete a safety certification for each piece of equipment they plan to operate independently.
